Biography

Gianluigi Donnarumma is an Italian goalkeeper who plays for Manchester City and serves as captain of the Italy national team. He is considered one of the best goalkeepers of his generation.

A graduate of AC Milan’s academy, which he joined in 2013 at the age of 14. Before that, he trained at ASD Club Napoli. Even within the Rossoneri youth system, he played for older age groups.

AC Milan (2015–2021)

He made his Serie A debut on October 25, 2015, against Sassuolo at the age of 16 years and 242 days, becoming one of the youngest goalkeepers in the history of the Italian championship. He almost immediately secured a place in the starting lineup.

Personal Life

He was born to Alfonso and Marinella Donnarumma. His older brother Antonio is also a professional goalkeeper and came through AC Milan’s system.

Since childhood, he supported AC Milan, even though his idol was Gianluigi Buffon, whom he later called his main career reference point.

He is known for his composure, maturity, and psychological resilience — qualities noted by many coaches and Buffon himself.

In December 2024, he suffered a serious facial injury in a match against Monaco, after which he was left with a noticeable scar.

In 2021, he led the Italy national team onto the field as captain for the first time, becoming the youngest captain of the team since the days of Gianni Rivera.
