Biography

Early Years and AIK

Alexander Isak was born on September 21, 1999, in Stockholm to a family of Eritrean immigrants. He grew up in the municipality of Solna and from the age of six trained in the system of his favorite club — AIK. At just 16, he made his debut for the first team and quickly rewrote club records, becoming the youngest goalscorer in AIK’s history in the Allsvenskan. At 17, he scored a brace in the derby against Djurgården, after which he began to be compared to Zlatan Ibrahimović in Sweden.

Transfer to Borussia Dortmund

In January 2017, Isak moved to Borussia Dortmund for around €9 million — a record fee at the time for a player from the Swedish league. It was difficult for him to secure a place in the starting lineup, but he won the German Cup and gained valuable experience.

Real Sociedad

In 2019, after a productive loan spell at Dutch side Willem II, he signed a contract with Real Sociedad. In Spain, Isak flourished: he scored in the Copa del Rey, netted a hat-trick in La Liga, and helped the club win the 2019/20 Copa del Rey.

Newcastle United

In August 2022, he joined Newcastle United for a club-record fee. Despite injuries in his first season, he gradually became the leader of the attack. In the 2023/24 season, he scored 21 goals in the Premier League, breaking Ibrahimović’s record for the most goals by a Swedish player in a single EPL season. In December 2024, he scored a hat-trick and was named Player of the Month in the league. In March 2025, he scored in the League Cup final, bringing Newcastle their first domestic trophy in decades.

Transfer to Liverpool

In the summer of 2025, following a conflict with the club’s management, Isak transferred to Liverpool for £125 million — a record fee in British football. In the autumn, he scored his first goals for the new club, but in December 2025 he suffered a serious injury (a fractured fibula and ankle damage) that required surgery.

Sweden National Team

Isak made his debut for the Sweden national team in 2017 and immediately became the youngest goalscorer in the team’s history. He has earned over 50 caps for the national team and represented the country at Euro 2020.

Personal Life

Isak was born into a family of Eritrean origin. Despite being one of the main stars of Swedish football, he is known for his reserved nature and rarely shares details about his personal life. His social media accounts contain almost no posts unrelated to football.

The footballer prefers to keep family and personal relationships out of the public eye, focusing on his professional career. His media image is calm, restrained, and fully focused on sport.
