After a loud and painful breakup, Gerard Pique and Shakira seemed to have ended up on opposite sides of the barricades for good. However, a few years later the former partners managed to move from confrontation to constructive dialogue – they now maintain direct contact and jointly resolve all issues related to the upbringing of their sons.

Breakup, Betrayal and Life on Different Continents

The couple’s story started to crack in 2022. The media extensively discussed reports of Pique’s infidelity, after which the former Barcelona centre-back began a relationship with Clara Chia. Shakira, for her part, decided to leave Barcelona and moved to Miami with their sons Sasha and Milan. Their personal lives went their separate ways, but the subject of the children remained a shared and painful one.

Communication Through an Intermediary and Prolonged Tension

For a long time the former partners avoided direct contact. According to Spanish media, all messages between them were passed through Shakira’s brother Tonino. Trips, meetings, the children’s schooling, their timetables and holidays were all agreed through him. This “conversation through a third party” only highlighted how difficult and emotionally charged the situation remained after the public breakup, which had been accompanied by songs, hints and barbed headlines in the press.

A New Format: Direct Dialogue Without Arguments

Now, however, the situation has changed, Marca reports, citing Vanitatis magazine. The Colombian singer and the former Spanish footballer have managed to ease some of the tension and establish direct communication. They call each other, exchange messages in apps and no longer need intermediaries when it comes to the children. It is noted that their conversations are calm and respectful, without emotional outbursts or mutual reproaches.

Children as the Main Joint Project

Even though their contact is limited solely to matters of Sasha and Milan’s upbringing and everyday life, this is seen as a key step forward. In effect, the two sides have built a functioning co-parenting model: they discuss education, discipline, travel schedules, holidays and the father’s involvement in his sons’ lives. The period of open confrontation that accompanied their breakup and played out in the public eye is gradually receding into the past.

Unexpected Praise: Shakira on Pique’s Role in Their Sons’ Lives

Another sign of reconciliation were Shakira’s recent comments in an interview. Speaking about Sasha and Milan growing up well-mannered and disciplined, she stressed that this is thanks not only to her, but also to their father. For an artist who for a long time expressed her pain and resentment publicly through her music, this marks a notable shift in tone – from grievances to acknowledging Pique’s contribution.

When Personal Grievances Give Way to the Children’s Interests

The story of Pique and Shakira shows that even after a high-profile split and public conflicts it is still possible to arrive at a civil form of communication. Their path from mutual silence and talking only through an intermediary to calm conversations for the sake of their children is an example of how personal emotions can gradually give way to parental responsibility. And although the romantic relationship is now in the past, the joint “team project” called “Sasha and Milan” continues to unite them and sets a new, more mature tone for their interaction.
