Luka Dončić’s injury came at the worst possible time. With just days remaining before the start of the playoffs, the Lakers’ leader is sidelined with a grade 2 hamstring strain — an injury that typically requires up to six weeks of recovery.

But in Los Angeles, they decided not to follow the standard timeline. According to insider Shams Charania, Dončić has traveled to Spain, where he is undergoing a course of injection therapy aimed at accelerating healing. These are methods more widely used in Europe than in the United States.

“He is doing everything possible to return to the court as soon as he can. Usually, with this type of injury, the timeline is four to six weeks. He’s trying to shorten it.”

The treatment is based on regenerative technologies. These may include PRP injections, stem cells, exosomes, and other methods that are injected directly into the injured area under ultrasound guidance. According to specialists, this approach can nearly cut recovery time in half. However, as always, there are no guarantees — it all depends on how the body responds.

In essence, the Lakers are using every possible resource to bring Dončić back for the most critical stage of the season. This is a familiar path for the franchise. Kobe Bryant once traveled to Germany for the Regenokine procedure and later praised its effects. LeBron James has also turned to European treatment methods for injuries. Now Dončić is following the same route.

The issue is that returning ahead of schedule always carries the risk of re-injury. This is especially true for hamstring injuries, where overloading can lead to even more serious consequences. But the context is clear — the playoffs begin on April 18, and there is simply no time for a traditional recovery process.

Will this accelerated scenario work — and will we see Dončić back on the court as early as the first round?
