Biography of Kylian Mbappe
Kylian Mbappé Lottin is a French forward, player of Real Madrid and captain of the France national team. He is considered one of the best footballers in the world for his speed, dribbling, and composure in front of goal.
Mbappé was born in Paris and grew up in Bondy. In his childhood, he played for AS Bondy, where he was coached by his father, Wilfried Mbappé. Later, Kylian went through the Clairefontaine academy, and at the age of 14 (July 2013) he signed with AS Monaco academy.
Monaco: Early Breakthrough and Championship
Mbappé made his first-team debut for Monaco on 2 December 2015 in a Ligue 1 match against Caen, becoming the youngest debutant in club history (breaking Thierry Henry’s record). His first goal for the first team came on 20 February 2016, also making him Monaco’s youngest scorer. In the 2016/17 season, he was a key player in the championship-winning team, scoring 26 goals in 44 matches, while Monaco won Ligue 1 and reached the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.
PSG: Record Transfer and Era of Trophies
On 31 August 2017, Mbappé joined Paris Saint-Germain on loan with an obligatory buyout, with the deal eventually totaling €180 mln — making him the most expensive teenager in history and the second most expensive player in the world at that time. In Paris, he won 6 Ligue 1 titles and 4 French Cups, including a domestic quadruple in the 2019/20 season, and helped the club reach its first-ever Champions League final (2020). Mbappé became PSG’s all-time top scorer, ranks among the top assist providers, and is one of Ligue 1’s all-time top scorers. In the 2021/22 season, he became the first player to finish a Ligue 1 season as both top scorer and top assist provider.
Real Madrid: Dream Move and Debut Season Records
In 2024, Mbappé joined Real Madrid as a free agent, signing a five-year contract. In the first half of his debut season, he won the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup, scoring in both finals. During his debut season, he set the record for most goals by a Real Madrid player in the first year, won the Pichichi Trophy, and claimed his first European Golden Boot.
France National Team
Mbappé debuted for the France senior national team in 2017. At the 2018 World Cup, he became the youngest French player to score in a World Cup and the second teenager after Pelé to score in a final — France won the tournament, and Mbappé received the Best Young Player award. In 2021, he helped France win the Nations League and became the top scorer of the final stage. At the 2022 World Cup, he won the Golden Boot and Silver Ball, and his hat-trick in the final made him the record holder for goals in World Cup finals. In 2023, he became the captain of the France national team.
Personal life of Kylian Mbappe
Kylian Mbappé is a practicing Christian. In interviews, he has repeatedly said that faith and family help him maintain balance in his career and cope with the pressures of top-level football.
He grew up in a sporting family:
- father Wilfried - football coach;
- mother Fayza Lamari - former handball player of Algerian descent;
- younger brother Ethan - professional footballer;
- adoptive older brother Jires Kembo Ekoko - also played professionally.
Despite early fame, Mbappé noted that as a teenager he consciously gave up a "normal life" — parties and free schedule — to fully focus on football development.
He is fluent in French, English, and Spanish.
In June 2024, during the Euros, Mbappé publicly urged youth to participate in elections in France and speak out against, in his words, "extreme views." It was a rare instance when the active captain of the France national team expressed a political opinion.
In autumn 2024, an investigation was launched in Sweden over allegations of sexual assault and harassment following Mbappé's visit to Stockholm. In December of the same year, the case was closed due to lack of evidence.
Mbappé remains one of the most recognizable figures in global sports: his social media audience exceeds 100 million followers, and he is among the most influential and highest-paid athletes in the world.
