56 goals in 56 matches.
A statistic that sounds like a typo.
In the Matchday 8 clash of the Champions League group stage against Galatasaray (2:0), Erling Haaland once again did what he does almost every week — scored. With that goal, he surpassed Ruud van Nistelrooy, climbing to sole 8th place on the tournament’s all-time top scorers list.
The Norwegian now has 56 goals — exactly the same number the legendary Dutchman had, but Haaland needed… 56 games. And he is still in the active phase of his career.
Only Thomas Müller (57) is ahead of him now.
Beyond that lies an entirely different level of statistics: Cristiano Ronaldo with his 140 goals looks like a final boss that still needs to be reached. But considering Haaland’s pace, the conversation about chasing the summit is no longer fantasy.
