Alphonso Boyle Davies was born on November 2, 2000, in a refugee camp in Ghana to Liberian parents who fled their country due to civil war. At the age of five, his family emigrated to Canada, where he grew up in Edmonton and began playing football.
Even as a teenager, Davies stood out for his speed and technique. At 15, he made his professional debut, becoming the youngest player in USL history and later one of the youngest in MLS.
At Vancouver Whitecaps, he quickly became a league star and in 2018 was named the club’s best player. That same year, Bayern Munich signed him for a record MLS fee. Initially playing as an attacker, he was later moved to left-back, where he reached a world-class level.
