Biography of Alexander Isak

Alexander Isak was born on 21 September 1999 in Stockholm in a family of immigrants from Eritrea. He grew up in the municipality of Solna and from the age of six trained in the youth system of his favorite club - AIK. At the age of 16 he made his debut for the first team and quickly rewrote club records, becoming the youngest goal scorer in AIK history in the Allsvenskan. At 17 he scored a brace in the derby against Djurgården, after which in Sweden he began to be compared with Zlatan Ibrahimović.

In January 2017 Isak moved to Borussia Dortmund for around €9 million - a record transfer fee at that time for a player from the Swedish league. It was difficult for him to secure a place in the starting lineup, but he won the German Cup and gained valuable experience. In 2019, after a productive loan spell at Dutch club Willem II, he signed a contract with Real Sociedad. In Spain Isak fully revealed his potential: he scored in the Copa del Rey, recorded a hat-trick in La Liga and helped the club win the 2019/20 Copa del Rey.

In August 2022 he joined Newcastle United for a club record fee. Despite injuries during his first season, he gradually became the leader of the attack. In the 2023/24 season he scored 21 goals in the Premier League, breaking Zlatan Ibrahimović's record for the most goals by a Swedish player in a single EPL season. In December 2024 he scored a hat-trick and was named the league’s Player of the Month. In March 2025 he scored in the League Cup final, bringing Newcastle their first domestic trophy in decades.

In the summer of 2025, after a conflict with the club’s management, Isak moved to Liverpool for £125 million - a record amount for British football. In the autumn he scored his first goals for the new club, but in December 2025 he suffered a serious injury (fracture of the fibula and ankle ligament damage) that required surgery.

Isak made his debut for the Sweden national team in 2017 and immediately became the youngest goal scorer in the history of the national team. He has played more than 50 matches for Sweden and represented the country at Euro 2020.
