Acun Ilıcalı has officially announced his resignation from the Fenerbahçe Board of Directors.
The renowned media producer and long-time supporter of the Istanbul club emphasised that he is stepping down, a position he had held since 9 June 2024, on his own initiative and after careful consideration:
“I would like to share with you that I am leaving my position as a member of the Board of Directors of Fenerbahçe Sports Club with great pride. I was born a Fenerbahçe fan. The yellow-navy blue jersey has been the purest and most fervent part of my life since childhood.
Although during my time under the roof of the Board I sometimes faced difficulties, every minute was a great honour for me. I received criticism and support, I fought, but I never forgot the main thing: everything here is for Fenerbahçe.
On this occasion I would like to sincerely thank our president Mr. Ali Koç, my esteemed fellow directors, our talented athletes, the club staff and, of course, the great Fenerbahçe supporters.”
Following his personal statement, the club’s press service issued its own notice highlighting the importance of his contribution:
“Our Board member and Vice-President for the 2024/25 season, Mr. Acun Ilıcalı, has stepped down. Throughout his tenure he has made extremely valuable contributions to our Board, and his approach, which always puts the interests of our club first, has earned the appreciation of our community.
We thank him for his devoted service to date and wish him success and happiness in his future endeavours.”
Thus, one of the most visible public figures associated with Fenerbahçe closes an important chapter in his football story. Despite leaving the management structure, the media mogul stresses that he will remain a devoted supporter: the bond with the club, which he calls “the purest and most joyous part of my life”, is not broken by his resignation.
As Fenerbahçe continues its vigorous preparations for the new season, the question of who will replace Acun Ilıcalı on the Board of Directors remains open for now. However, the club assures that continuity in leadership will be preserved, and that the strategic course — supporting the team on all fronts — will remain unchanged.
Ilıcalı’s departure is seen as an emotional yet respectful step — by the supporter toward the club, and by the club toward its long-time ally. The sporting community expects that, thanks to their mutual respect, the sides will continue to cooperate in other formats, including media projects and initiatives aimed at strengthening the Fenerbahçe brand beyond Turkey.
“Every moment of my service was for Fenerbahçe,” Ilıcalı concluded, assuring the fans that he will continue to support the team from the stands and on screen.
The combined gratitude and kind words from both sides underscore the spirit of mutual trust within a club striving for high sporting goals and a stronger image on the international stage.
