In the 2024-25 season, he also won the Gerd Muller Trophy as Europe's most prolific footballer in terms of combined goals for club and country.
In July 2025, Gyokeres signed a five-year contract with Arsenal. The transfer fee amounted to 63.5 million euros including bonuses. In his debut season in England, he adapted quickly, scored a brace against Leeds, netted important goals in the Champions League, and by the beginning of 2026 had become one of the Premier League's most productive players of the calendar year.
Gyokeres made his debut for the Sweden national team in 2019. He was the top scorer at the 2017 UEFA European Under-19 Championship and gradually secured his place in the senior national team. Scandals involving Viktor Gyokeres
Conflict with Sporting during the move to Arsenal
In the summer of 2025, Gyokeres found himself at the center of a major conflict with Portuguese club Sporting over his potential sale to Arsenal. He did not return on time for pre-season training, trying to speed up the transfer, and this caused dissatisfaction among club bosses, who announced possible disciplinary action against him.
It was reported that there was a "gentleman's agreement" between the player and the club that he would be allowed to leave for a certain amount (~€60 million + bonuses). Later, the management raised the asking price, which caused frustration for Gyokeres and led to a falling-out. He allegedly stated that he no longer wanted to play for Sporting because of this and refused to return to training.
Some football experts and coaches criticized the player for a "lack of professionalism" and the way he behaved during the process of leaving the club, considering his actions disrespectful to Sporting.
Accusations of unprofessional behavior
Portuguese media and commentators criticized the way Gyokeres pushed for a transfer - including missing training sessions, public statements of dissatisfaction, and tense negotiations with Sporting.
Court case involving his agent - Gyokeres as a witness
The Swedish striker was summoned to court in Sweden as a witness in a case where his agent filed a defamation lawsuit against two news websites. The media had claimed that the agent and his sports agency were linked to questionable individuals, which the agent denies. Gyokeres is expected to testify in this case.
Rumors about his personal life and fan reaction
During the transfer rumors, a story appeared in English-language media claiming that Arsenal fans had allegedly created a chant about him breaking up with his girlfriend in order to join the club. Gyokeres refused to comment on it, and neither he nor his ex confirmed the details of the relationship. Such stories attracted attention but remain speculative.
